This month, the award-winning MPI Original Film A Piece of Cake added to its list of accolades a bevy of rave reviews:

“The Bragg duo hilariously show the lengths parents will travel to fulfil a promise to their child,” posted Arts Muse Magazine. “A Piece of Cake draws pure humor from the opening scene to the end credits proving that props, risk of injury, or expletives aren’t a requirement for a humorous film.”

The Alexandria Times commented, “What could easily feel like an extended SNL sketch instead becomes a descent into suburban madness due largely to Sommer’s commitment to the bit. He goes from irritated to frazzled to paranoid over the course of a short run time and sells every second of it.”

Written by MPI filmmakers Austin and Meredith Bragg (who are also producers at Reason TV), this script was developed in MPI’s Short Film Creative Development and Production Lab and produced as an MPI Original short.

“As fathers ourselves, we are acutely aware of the steps parents take to make their kids happy,” commented the filmmakers. “We’ve even fielded a few odd birthday requests. (Ever been to a six-year-old’s Queen Elizabeth/astronaut-themed birthday party? We threw one!) It’s this universal story—the lengths to which dads will go to keep their promises to their kids—that anchors our film.”

When asked what they hope their audiences take away from the film in an interview with Viddy Well, The Bragg Brothers replied, “More than anything our goal is to entertain people. If they come out of it with a new perspective on the drug war or overcriminalization, even better.”
