MPI Original Films (MPI) is adapting Yeonmi Park’s best-selling autobiography In Order to Live into a feature film. The movie will portray thirteen-year-old Yeonmi and her mother, who, on the brink of starvation and facing the brutal reality of life under North Korea’s oppressive regime, make the desperate decision to flee. Their pursuit of freedom leads them into an even darker nightmare in China, where they are deceived and sold into slavery. Yet, even in the face of relentless suffering, Yeonmi’s spirit remains unbroken. At fifteen, she makes the perilous journey across the Gobi Desert, guided only by the stars, to finally reach South Korea and discover true freedom.
This film sheds light on Yeonmi’s extraordinary story of survival, resilience, and her unwavering fight to reclaim her humanity. Today, she stands as a voice for those still trapped under oppression, advocating for change and hope.
