With all of the challenges and seismic shifts in the filmmaking business, MPI has found a unique way to support filmmakers making shorts and features. The opportunities MPI provides simply do not exist elsewhere.
The MPI Production Lab trains filmmakers on the entire production process teaching them to transform their concepts into powerful and entertaining on-screen stories.
Participants for the Production Lab are typically selected from MPI’s Short Film Lab and MPI’s Documentary Storytelling Workshop who have their original concepts greenlit and funded as MPI Original Films. MPI’s experienced producers then educate participants on all aspects of filmmaking including budgeting, hiring department heads, scouting locations, casting on-screen talent, editing, sound mixing, and color correction. Once a film is complete, filmmakers are guided through the process of creating promotional materials and a film festival release strategy.
Thanks to MPI mentorship, funding, and on-the-ground production resources, MPI Original shorts routinely beat out tens of thousands of other films to screen at the country’s top film festivals, such as Tribeca and SXSW. MPI is not just a story incubator; we turn great stories into high-quality films.
