We are excited to share with you the trailer for the upcoming MPI Original short The Perfect One. 

Written and directed by MPI filmmaker Matthew Szewczyk, the narrative film follows a young painter who revives his family’s failing business by taking an innovative risk. 

“When I wrote The Perfect One, I wanted to tell a simple story about the pain and uncertainty that comes when creative destruction is the thing we need most to evolve,” says Matthew. “Breaking out of personal and artistic ruts isn’t easy, and I wanted to explore what that felt like when a father and son had to go through the process together.”

Matthew developed The Perfect One in MPI’s Calling Card Workshop where we worked with him to refine the script and shortly after acquired it for production. MPI also prepared Matthew for the film shoot in our Directing Workshop where he was able to rehearse scenes, run mock casting sessions, and learn effective on-set strategies from industry experts.

“With MPI’s resources and support, I was able to put together a team of phenomenal artists and performers to tell this heartfelt morality tale about the intersection of creativity and entrepreneurship,” continues Matthew. “MPI supported me in every way imaginable—from providing mentors in their screenwriting and directing workshops to trusting my creative instincts in my choice of the cinematographer and soundtrack. I couldn’t ask for a better production partner, and I can’t wait for this film to premiere.”
