Education is once again at the center of the national conversation, raising questions about what parents can do when their child’s school isn’t giving them the education they deserve.

The MPI Original feature film Miss Virginia, starring three-time Emmy winner Uzo Aduba, tells the true story of Virginia Walden Ford, a Washington, DC, mother who confronted that question when her son struggled in school.

Virginia found a private school where her son began to thrive, but she struggled to afford the tuition. Her experience led her to advocate for other families who wanted greater choice in where their children went to school, regardless of their income or ZIP code.

She went on to become a leading advocate for expanding educational options for families and helped establish the DC Opportunity Scholarship Program, which provides scholarships for children from low-income families to attend participating private schools in Washington, DC.

Miss Virginia brings her journey to the screen, showing how one mother’s determination to help her son ultimately became an effort to expand choices for thousands of families.
