MPI Original Films is thrilled to announce A Piece of Cake and Gringa are now available to stream on demand at WatchMPIOriginalFilms.com

This new Vimeo channel will provide public access to MPI’s impressive slate of films and online videos once they have completed their film festival runs, ensuring these award-winning films continue to reach audiences and tell stories that educate about what freedom is and why it matters.

The MPI Original Film A Piece of Cake, starring Rich Sommer (GLOW, Mad Men), follows a desperate father who descends into a confectionery black market after he discovers his daughter’s favorite cake decoration is illegal. Developed in MPI’s Short Film Creative Development and Production Lab by MPI filmmakers Austin and Meredith Bragg, A Piece of Cake has now screened at more than 35 film festivals around the world, including seven that are Oscar-qualifying. Its accolades include a nomination for Best Narrative Short at the Tribeca Film Festival and Best Comedy and the Audience Choice Award in Comedy at the Indy Shorts International Film Festival. The Bragg Brothers, who also serve as producers at Reason TV, are currently in production on the MPI Original feature film Pinball.

Gringa, an award-winning MPI Original Film, follows Vanessa, a Cuban-American woman, who has a foot in two worlds. When she rushes home to pack for a trip to Cuba, she doesn’t expect what’s waiting for her: a mission from her eccentric Abuelo. This dramedy short, written by MPI senior vice president Lana Link and MPI filmmaker Claudia Murray, has screened at dozens of film festivals taking home first place in many—including the 22nd Annual Fade In Awards Comedy Competition, the Award of Excellence at the 2018 Best Shorts Competition, and Best Short Film at the Fayetteville Film Festival. Claudia also received an award for Best Director at the UCLAxFilmFest.

Gather your family and friends this weekend, and enjoy these two fun-loving shorts that festival audiences across the country have been raving about!
