MPI is pleased to announce our official selection from the 2021 Short Film Creative Development and Production Lab: MPI filmmaker Calvin Tran. 

Over the coming months, MPI will work with Calvin to refine his short film script and transition to the directing phase where he will cast his vision for principal photography.

“Calvin is a talented filmmaker with great potential, and we’re excited to continue collaborating with him,” said MPI senior vice president Lana Link who oversees MPI’s talent programs.

MPI has worked with Calvin since he was in high school. Over the years he has participated in numerous labs and workshops including this year’s Dramatic Short Screenwriting Workshop, Directing Workshop, and Documentary Storytelling Workshop. He was also awarded the 2016 Freedom in Film Grant for his WWII-period short film Bizone. 

A graduate of the NYU Tisch School of the Arts with a BFA in Film and Television Production, Calvin is the founder and executive of NODEHAUS, a Gen-Z digital media agency. His previous production and directing credits include CoinDesk’s Rizqi Presents Blockchain, Learn Liberty’s Refuge, and the upcoming feature documentary An American Portrait.
