As reported in Variety, MPI filmmaker Ryan Patch continues to build on the success of his award-winning MPI Original Film Regulation with the recent release of the first two episodes of City of Ghosts, a supernatural neo-noir fiction podcast set in New York City. Co-created with Carina Green, this 10-episode podcast follows Eleanor “El” Rivkin, a misanthropic information broker, as she grapples with a tangled web of corruption, murder, and her own mysterious abilities in 1990s New York.

“The story we tell in City of Ghosts presents a compelling look into the way small acts of municipal corruption and favor-giving in government can have enormous consequences that affect all our lives,” said Ryan. “Working alongside MPI to produce Regulation helped develop my directing skills and proved that I could work with name talent, helping me secure and direct City of Ghosts all-star cast. Ultimately, MPI gave me the exact support I needed to get City of Ghosts off the ground.”

The podcast’s star-studded cast includes Brigette Lundy-Paine (Atypical), Erin Darke (Good Girls Revolt, Marvelous Mrs. Maisel), Moises Arias (Hannah Montana, The Jockey), James Scully (You), Rich Sommer (A Piece of Cake, Mad Men, GLOW), Kevin Pollak (A Few Good Men, Marvelous Mrs. Maisel), Navid Nagaban (Homeland, Aladdin), and Golshifteh Farahani (Apple’s Invasion, Extraction, Body of Lies).

Ryan has participated in numerous MPI Rising Filmmaker Program labs and workshops over the years including the Short Film Creative Development and Production Lab, Moving Picturecraft, and our Directing Workshop.

The podcast was also a learning opportunity for MPI intern Zack Cincotta who MPI placed on the virtual set to assist Ryan. “I was proud to be able to host an MPI intern, who was not only a huge help in creating the series but got a chance to see up close how something like this is produced,” said Ryan.
