In a recent interview with the UK’s Daily Express, Matthew Modine (Stranger Things, Full Metal Jacket) expressed the importance of the MPI Original Film Miss Virginia, in which he plays Congressman Clifford Williams alongside Emmy-winning lead actress Uzo Aduba.

Modine explained how the film’s message about educational opportunity is as relevant today as ever before, “[W]hat we’re going through right now is, once again, a civil rights movement to bring greater racial justice and social justice to an unfair system.”

Miss Virginia tells the powerful story of a determined, single mother who isn’t willing to settle for what the system is willing to give her. She didn’t start her journey wanting to be an activist, but she finds herself leading a movement when she fights for a better education for her son, who is being drawn to the rough streets of DC.

Faced with a seemingly insurmountable task, Virginia realizes depths of inner strength she never knew she had. Her efforts to rally parents, community leaders, and politicians secures brighter futures for thousands of children, giving them opportunities they once thought impossible.
