Since the beginning of the year, MPI Original shorts developed through MPI’s filmmaker programs have screened at more than 160 festivals and earned more than 30 awards. This week, two films added three international awards to that growing list.

MPI filmmaker Nick Delgado’s The One-Minute Problem earned two honors abroad: Best Comedy/Parody Short at The Galactic Imaginarium Film Festival in Timișoara, Romania, and Best Pop-Culture Film at the Cyprus Comic Con Film Festival in Nicosia, Cyprus.

Developed through MPI’s Short Film Lab, the sci-fi comedy follows a Spanish immigrant on the verge of inventing teleportation who must outsmart an overzealous government bureaucrat as he races to perfect his breakthrough and reunite with his family. Watch the trailer here.

The MPI Original documentary short Skyward: The Sport Rocketry Revolution also received international recognition, winning Best Educational Film at the Children’s International Film Festival of Wales in the United Kingdom.

Co-directed by MPI filmmaker Matthew Middendorf and Kaitlyn Krikorian, Skyward follows the next generation of rocketeers as they compete in the world of sport rocketry. The film celebrates young people pursuing ambitious ideas through science, engineering, competition, and creativity. See the trailer here.

From a sci-fi comedy recognized in Romania and Cyprus to a documentary honored in Wales, these latest awards show how MPI Original films are connecting with audiences around the world.
