This year marks the 20th anniversary of the DC Opportunity Scholarship Program, an initiative featured in the MPI Original film Miss Virginia that has provided educational opportunities to thousands of students in the District of Columbia. Created to give low-income families access to private schools and better educational environments, the program remains a beacon of hope, transforming the futures of students who otherwise may have been left behind.

Miss Virginia, featuring three-time Emmy winner Uzo Aduba (Mrs. America, Orange Is the New Black), brings to life the true story of Virginia Walden Ford, a determined mother who championed educational choice to improve the lives of her son and countless other children from underserved communities. Her efforts helped transform access to safe, high-quality schools, making an enduring impact on the educational landscape.

Since its release, Miss Virginia has reached over 180 million households worldwide, streaming on platforms like Apple TV, Amazon Prime Video, Tubi, and Google Play in more than 90 countries. Its powerful message has moved audiences beyond the screen, motivating parents, educators, and community leaders to continue fighting for every child’s right to a quality education.

MPI keeps the momentum alive through regular screenings and gatherings, where Virginia, now an MPI Board Member, frequently participates to share her inspiring experiences. These events continue to drive meaningful discussions on the significance of educational freedom and the necessity for change.
