The award-winning MPI Original Film Melons makes its debut today on the popular streaming channel Omeleto. The channel is known as a “home for the next generation of great filmmakers” and only features short films that have screened at Oscar-qualifying festivals, BAFTA-qualifying festivals, or other similar top-tier film festivals. Omeleto describes Melons as an “entertaining, witty short comedy” that “takes advantage of applying the wildfire of catastrophic, virally-fueled ‘cancel culture’ to a small-time, folksy business, finding humor in the mismatch of white-hot outrage to seemingly small stakes.”

Starring Brian Huskey (Veep, Bob’s Burgers) and Martin Mull (Arrested Development, Roseanne), Melons follows a jolly, but meek, grocery store manager who learns to stand up for himself after a misunderstanding brands him as public enemy #1. The comedy short was developed in MPI’s Short Film Lab by MPI filmmaker Matt MacDonald.

Melons had its world premiere at the Oscar-qualifying Cleveland International Film Festival and has since gone on to screen across the country at top festivals including the Newport Beach International Film Festival, HollyShorts Film Festival, Indy Shorts International Film Festival, and the Orlando Film Festival where it won Best Short Film in a field of 150 entries.
