The 2020 Intern Summit was recently held remotely, marking the start of the Moving Picture Institute’s Hollywood Career Launch Program.

Guided by MPI’s talent associate, Hannah Ruth Earl, interns hit the ground running with a crash course in navigating the entertainment industry with sessions led by esteemed animator Colin Brady (Toy Story 2, Astro Boy, TMNT) and the CFO of Bold Films, Rob Mitchell (Whiplash, Drive).

The Summit provides a critical foundation for interns as they head into their 12-week internships and also serves as an opportunity to advance their individual career goals by strengthening their filmmaking network.

“The Summit packed in lots of information that came directly from industry professionals, none of which is covered in film school,” said MPI intern Kyra Arendt.

MPI’s Hollywood Career Launch Program places aspiring directors, producers, and screenwriters in paid positions at prestigious production companies such as Millennium Films, BRON Studios, Bold Films, and Avalon Entertainment. Throughout the program, interns network with leading professionals, build mentoring relationships, and acquire vital skills.“In meeting my fellow interns, it feels like there is a community of people learning and growing with me in understanding and engaging the dynamic entertainment industry,” wrote Courtney Smith. “I am so grateful for the great community and connections I have already received in this program.”

The interns will also meet weekly throughout the summer to participate in MPI’s Summer Series: Freedom + Film virtual seminar where they will continue to learn how to navigate the entertainment industry, including sessions led by MPI intern alumni on how to maximize their internship experience.
