Next weekend, MPI Original Films returns to the Sundance Film Festival as an official partner, hosting a panel in Park City, Utah, focused on how filmmakers can use short-form storytelling to create meaningful impact.

If you have plans to attend the festival, please join us for a conversation centered on the MPI Original short film The Art of Inflation, featuring MPI senior vice president Lana Link, writer-directors Brett Wietecha and Tim Hedberg, Spanish economist and filmmaker Gabriel Calzada, and Venezuelan-born activist Nery Santaella. Drawing from their creative and professional experiences, the discussion will explore how short films can engage urgent global issues while entertaining and educating audiences, and will offer an inside look at MPI’s Short Film Lab and Production Lab.

In 2018, Venezuela’s inflation rate surged past 1,000,000 percent, forcing more than seven million people to flee the country. Against the backdrop of this economic collapse, two fictional brothers struggle to survive on a militia-run coca farm. With their lives on the line, the younger brother risks everything in a desperate bid for freedom—and for the girl he loves.
