Last weekend, the MPI Original feature Motherland won the Jury Prize for Best Narrative Feature at the Valley Film Festival—Los Angeles’s longest-running showcase of cinema in the San Fernando Valley. Known for its focus on independent voices and innovative storytelling, the festival fosters connections between filmmakers, industry professionals, and audiences.
Directed by Evan Matthews and written by Nicole Roewe (née Swinford), Motherland focuses on an alternate present society where the state frees parents from the burden of raising children, until a rule enforcer learns a shocking truth that sparks her rebellion. Evan, Nicole, and MPI’s senior vice president, Lana Link, were on hand to accept the award.
The film stars Tony Award winner Miriam Silverman (Your Neighbors and Friends, Landman), legendary Emmy winner Holland Taylor (The Morning Show, Hollywood), Emmy Award winner Néstor Carbonell (Shōgun, The Morning Show), and rising star Emily Arancio.
You can watch Motherland on your favorite streaming platforms including Apple TV, Amazon Prime Video, and Google Play.
