Directed by longtime MPI filmmaker Evan Matthews and written by Nicole Roewe (née Swinford), Motherland is set in an alternate present society where the state frees parents from the burden of raising children—until a rule enforcer learns a shocking truth that sparks her rebellion. The film stars Tony Award winner Miriam Silverman (The Sign in Sidney Brustein’s Window), legendary Emmy-winning actress Holland Taylor (The Morning Show, Hollywood), Emmy Award winner Néstor Carbonell (Shōgun, The Morning Show), and newcomer Emily Arancio.
The film attracted significant attention within the film community, underscoring a growing appetite for stories that challenge and inspire. It screened at 14 festivals, received 21 nominations, and earned 12 awards—including Best Feature Film and Best Director.
