‘Miss Virginia’ Star Wins Third Emmy Award

The Moving Picture Institute congratulates Uzo Aduba on her third Emmy win! Last night at the 72nd Emmy Awards, Uzo Aduba won the Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress. This win highlights her outstanding work playing Shirley Chisholm in the FX miniseries Mrs. America. Uzo was the lead actress in the 2019 MPI Original Film Miss Virginia which is currently streaming on more than 1,000 digital platforms including Netflix, AppleTV, and Amazon Prime Video.

As the lead actress in Miss Virginia, Uzo plays Virginia Walden Ford, a struggling single mother who is losing her fifteen-year-old son to the rough streets of Washington, DC. Unwilling to see him drop out of high school and deal drugs, she places him in a private school. But when she can’t afford tuition, she launches a movement to change the system that is destroying him and thousands like him.
