The MPI Original Film Miss Virginia, starring Uzo Aduba (Mrs. America, Orange Is the New Black), Matthew Modine (Stranger Things, Full Metal Jacket), and Niles Fitch (This Is Us, We Have a Ghost), screened twice this month as part of well-organized grassroots events coordinated to inspire parents and communities to improve educational opportunities for their children.

Miss Virginia is based on the true story of Virginia Walden Ford, a struggling single mother terrified she’ll lose her 15-year-old son, James, to the rough streets of Washington, DC. Determined not to see him drop out and deal drugs, Virginia takes on a janitorial position as a second job so she can place him in a private school. But with roadblocks frequently popping up along the way, an expensive school is not attainable for James—or for the many other disadvantaged children who don’t have access to the educational opportunities they need to escape the continuing cycle of poverty.

Miss Virginia is now available to stream for free on Tubi, so if you did not have the chance to attend one of the screenings this month, you can watch it from the comfort of home. Grab your friends and your popcorn to watch Miss Virginia this week!
