The MPI Original short film Melons will have its first screening of 2023 at the Borrego Springs Film Festival (BSFF) on Thursday, January 12, in Borrego Springs, California. BSFF has been voted among FilmFreeway’s Top 100 Best Reviewed Festivals, and this year is its tenth year running.

Developed by MPI filmmaker Matt MacDonald in MPI’s 2020 Short Film Lab, Melons stars Brian Huskey (Veep, People of Earth, Bob’s Burgers) and Martin Mull (Roseanne, Arrested Development, Clue). In 2022 the film screened at 16 notable film festivals. Highlights of its impressive film festival run include screening at the Newport Beach International Film Festival, which is recognized as one of Southern California’s leading film events with over 58,000 attendees; being nominated for Best Comedy at the Cordillera festival in Reno, Nevada, which is the state’s largest film festival; and winning Best Short Film at the Orlando Film Festival in a field of 150 entries.
