Nick Tucker started his journey with MPI as a fellow in 2007—when MPI backed his documentary Do As I Say. Since then, he’s remained closely connected through additional projects like his short film Corrections and years of active involvement in MPI events. “More than anything,” he says, “MPI has been a great network of people. I’ve met lifelong friends and collaborators, learned from inspiring speakers, and had the chance to mentor others. It’s truly been a great community.”

Now, Nick is launching Decommissioned, a near-future sci-fi film set after a second American civil war. It follows soldiers deactivating combat drones—until they encounter two experimental units that seem more intelligent than they should be. The film explores how emerging tech like AI and robotics might alter our perception of human life, particularly under authoritarian regimes where individuals are seen as expendable.

Nick, a filmmaker for over 20 years, has spent the last decade working at the intersection of storytelling and cutting-edge technology, helping major companies imagine the future. He’s directed feature films, documentaries, and music videos, and he currently hosts the YouTube series HARD RESET, which has racked up over 80 million views.

The Decommissioned team is now crowdfunding on Seed&Spark to raise support for production essentials—including practical effects, costumes, and even puppetry. If you’re excited by bold, independent sci-fi grounded in real ideas, this is a film worth backing.
