MPI Original Films invites you to attend the Los Angeles premiere of the award-winning MPI Original documentary short Andrea’s Gambit on January 14 at 7:00 p.m., followed by a Q&A with director Rebecca Doyle, film subject and star Andrea Botez, composer Alexander Arntzen, editor Andrew Jewell, and MPI senior vice president and producer Lana Link.

The film follows Andrea, the 20-year-old daughter of immigrants who fled communist Romania, as she pursues master-level chess and builds a career in chess content creation in hopes of gaining admission to her dream university. But as her success in chess, content, and music accelerates, Andrea reaches a turning point: whether to continue on the traditional path to college or fully commit to her entrepreneurial momentum—raising the question of whether university will advance her ambitions or limit a career already taking shape.

Off screen, Andrea is a chess player, DJ, and content creator. After finding early success as a competitive player and winning the U8 Girls Canadian Youth Chess Championship, she transitioned into full-time content creation under Twitch and YouTube channel BotezLive, co-founded with her sister, Alexandra. Subsequently, Andrea has established a significant career in electronic music, performing around the world under the Monstercat label before launching her own, Botez Records. She currently shares her mixes on YouTube channel Andrea Botez, updates her chess content on YouTube channel BotezLive, and co-hosts the podcast Botez Sisters with Alexandra. Recently, she has been recognized by Forbes and Rolling Stone as one of the most impactful creators in the gaming and music space.
