MPI recently concluded two of its filmmaker development programs, marking the completion of the second annual Concept to Treatment Workshop and Mentorship Program. Together, the programs provided filmmakers with opportunities to develop their projects, receive individualized industry guidance, and build relationships within MPI’s growing filmmaker network.
The Concept to Treatment Workshop brought together nine filmmakers developing eight projects. Working with MPI’s creative development team, participants strengthened their story concepts and transformed their ideas into treatments, laying the groundwork for future development.
The yearlong Mentorship Program began with an in-person summit at the Sundance Film Festival in January, where participating filmmakers met their mentors and connected with fellow members of the MPI community. In the months that followed, they met one-on-one with experienced entertainment industry professionals for guidance tailored to their projects, careers, and professional goals.
With these programs complete, MPI is continuing to provide opportunities for filmmakers to develop new work. Applications are currently open for the 2027 Short Film Lab, which will center on the theme “For the Greater Good?” and stories exploring the tension between collective goals and individual freedom.
Selected filmmakers will develop their projects through MPI’s screenwriting and directing workshops. At least one filmmaker will receive a $10,000 grant and the opportunity to further develop their project with MPI for potential production as an MPI Original film.
Applications close November 29 at 11:59 p.m. PT. Apply for the 2027 Short Film Lab here.
