‘Freedom Hair’ Receives Nominations at Two Acclaimed Festivals

The MPI Original feature narrative film Freedom Hair has been honored with nominations for two distinguished awards. It is a contender for Best Feature Film at the Oscar-qualifying Martha’s Vineyard African American Film Festival in Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts. The film will be screened on August 2, 2024, at 2 p.m. Don’t miss the opportunity to secure your ticket and meet the film’s Oscar-nominated writer-director, Dianne Houston, who will be in attendance.

Based on an inspiring true story, Freedom Hair stars Simona Brown (Netflix’s Behind Her Eyes) as Melony, a determined mother who starts a natural hair braiding business to achieve financial independence but faces unexpected challenges from a powerful cosmetology cartel and the State of Mississippi.
