CBS Columbus recently featured the MPI Original narrative feature Freedom Hair in a piece highlighting the film’s significance in addressing licensing restrictions across the country. Watch the interview with Melony Armstrong, the film’s subject and executive producer, now here.

Directed by Oscar-nominated filmmaker Dianne Houston, Freedom Hair tells the inspiring true story of Melony, a Mississippi mother who dreamed of starting a natural hair braiding business. Her journey was met with resistance from the cosmetology lobby and restrictive state laws. Starring Simona Brown (Behind Her Eyes), the film portrays Melony’s legal battle to overcome these challenges and achieve her entrepreneurial dream.

Melony tells CBS that she hopes Freedom Hair will inspire female entrepreneurs and encourage others to pursue their business goals. “What I am hoping the movie does is incite hope in people, courage in people—to be bold. Use your voice, stand up for what you really believe in, and ultimately, if it is something you believe in, persist until you succeed,” she shared.

You can watch Freedom Hair on your favorite streaming platforms including Apple TV, Amazon Prime Video, and Google Play. Its Starz debut is set for next month. Love the film? Make sure to leave a review at RottenTomatoes.com!
