The MPI Original short film A Piece of Cake starring Rich Sommer (Mad Men, GLOW) is enjoying quite the film festival run!

The film has been accepted into over a dozen film festivals including four that are Oscar-qualifying—the Tribeca Film Festival, the Cleveland International Film Festival, the Indy Shorts International Film Festival, and the HollyShorts Film Festival. It was nominated for Best Narrative Short at Tribeca, won Best Comedy and the Audience Choice Award in Comedy at Indy Shorts, won Best Comedy at the Chesapeake Film Festival, and won Best Short at the New Hope Film Festival where it was also nominated for Best Overall Short and Best Director.

Dubbed a “must watch” earlier this summer by Starry Constellation Magazine, the silver-ball-black-market-cake-quest film is due to screen through November giving viewers many opportunities to do just that in the next several weeks.

The film is available to watch from the safety and comfort of your home via the Breck Film Festival now through October 4th; the Chesapeake Film Festival with free festing October 1-4; the Edmonton International Film Festival on October 5th; the Heartland International Film Festival October 8-18; Devour! The Food Film Fest on October 22nd; and on November 9-15 the film will screen virtually at the Oscar-qualifying HollyShorts Film Festival.

Thanks to the film’s Best Comedy win at the Indy Shorts International Film Festival, A Piece of Cake will enjoy its television broadcast premiere on ShortsTV in the month of October. We will be sure to share more details about this exciting premiere in the coming days.

Festival goers in New Zealand and Canada are in for a real treat as A Piece of Cake will be screening LIVE at the Show Me Shorts Film Festival in cities throughout NZ October 1-21 and at Devour! The Food Film Fest in Nova Scotia on October 22nd.

MPI is thrilled by the success of A Piece of Cake which originated in the 2019 MPI Short Film Creative Development and Production Lab where it was developed by MPI filmmakers and award-winning video producers and editors at Reason TV Austin and Meredith Bragg.
