In 2018, Venezuela’s inflation skyrocketed to over 1,000,000%, driving more than seven million Venezuelans to flee the country as refugees.

Set against the backdrop of this economic collapse, the MPI Original short The Art of Inflation follows two fictional brothers struggling to survive on a militia-run coca farm. With their lives on the line, the younger brother risks everything in a desperate bid for freedom—and for the girl he loves.

The impactful film was developed by MPI filmmakers Brett Wietecha and Tim Hedberg in MPI’s Short Film Lab and produced through MPI’s Production Lab as an MPI Original film. The Art of Inflation exemplifies MPI’s mission to empower filmmakers to tell bold, human stories that illuminate the struggle for freedom.
