The award-winning MPI Original narrative feature film Motherland is now available on your favorite on demand platforms including Apple TV, Prime Video, and Google Play! The film will also appear in select theaters nationwide starting today.

Developed and produced by our in-house MPI team, Motherland was directed by longtime MPI filmmaker Evan Matthews and written by Nicole Roewe. The film centers on an alternate present society where the state frees parents from the burden of raising children, until a rule enforcer learns a shocking truth that sparks her rebellion.

Inspired by a failed policy enacted in Russia during the Bolshevik Revolution, this 1984-esque thriller explores parental rights, the power of family bonds, the perils of the surveillance state, the dangers of a social credit system, and the extreme lengths that governments will go to protect their own broken systems.

The cast features Tony Award winner Miriam Silverman (Your Friends and Neighbors, Landman), legendary Emmy winner Holland Taylor (The Morning Show, Hollywood), Emmy Award winner Néstor Carbonell (Shōgun, The Morning Show), and rising star Emily Arancio.

Motherland has already made its mark on the festival circuit, screening at eleven festivals and winning ten awards, including Best Feature Film and Best Director, with nineteen total nominations. Its reception underscores how stories grounded in timeless values resonate deeply with audiences and critics, positioning the film as a powerful conversation starter on freedom, family, and responsibility.

We hope you’ll watch Motherland, share it with friends, and join us in sparking the conversations this film was made to inspire.
