This past weekend proved fruitful for the MPI Original short A Piece of Cake, which won the jury award for Best Comedy and the coveted Audience Choice Award in Comedy during the Indy Shorts International Film Festival, an Academy Award-qualifying festival presented by Heartland Film.
The festival, which is the largest short film festival in the Midwest, took a hybrid approach to COVID-19 by holding virtual and local screenings of the film. Local participants were treated to showings at the Tibbs Drive-in Theatre in Indianapolis, IN and our filmmakers participated in a virtual Q&A with other participants in the comedy shorts block.
As a result of these wins, A Piece of Cake will also play encore screenings at the Heartland International Film Festival scheduled for early October.
MPI filmmakers Austin and Meredith Bragg, a.k.a. The Bragg Brothers, co-wrote and co-directed this award-winning film which originated in an MPI Screenwriting Workshop. MPI’s Rob Pfaltzgraff and Lana Link produced alongside R.D. Delgado. MPI’s Nick Reid executive produced.
The film also earned a nomination for Best Short Narrative Film at the Tribeca Film Festival earlier this year.
