Two MPI Original short films, Pocket Change and The One-Minute Problem, have earned awards at the LAcon V Film Festival, part of the 84th World Science Fiction Convention in Anaheim, California. Pocket Change won Best Featurette, while The One-Minute Problem received Best Science Fiction.

Written and directed by MPI filmmakers Heston Roewe and Tanner Mobley, Pocket Change centers on a mysterious drifter and his seemingly worthless quarter—an object that may be the key to saving a group of strangers when the power goes out at a remote roadside diner. Watch the trailer here.

The One-Minute Problem, written and directed by MPI filmmaker Nick Delgado, follows a young scientist on the verge of inventing teleportation. As he races to perfect his breakthrough and reunite with his family, he must outsmart an overzealous Department of Water and Power bureaucrat determined to shut his project down. Audiences will have the opportunity to see both award-winning films at the festival. Pocket Change will screen on Saturday, August 29, at 11:00 a.m., and The One-Minute Problem will screen on Sunday, August 30, at 5:00 p.m.
