Esquire has unveiled the first look at the MPI Original feature One Second After, giving audiences an exclusive preview of the highly anticipated adaptation of William R. Forstchen’s bestselling novel ahead of its 2027 theatrical release.

The exclusive feature includes an interview with star Josh Holloway, who leads the cast as John Matherson, a former Army colonel forced to protect his family and community after an electromagnetic pulse (EMP) attack brings modern life to a standstill.

Calling the film “a warning,” Josh describes One Second After as both an action thriller and a story about resilience, leadership, and the strength of community. In his conversation with Esquire, he reflects on the film’s timely exploration of what happens when modern technology suddenly disappears and people must rely on one another to survive.

Directed by Scott Rogers in his feature directorial debut, the film also stars Hannah John-Kamen, Famke Janssen, and Oscar-nominated actress Mary McDonnell. Filmed in Bulgaria, the production recreated the town of Black Mountain, North Carolina—the setting of Forstchen’s acclaimed novel—with remarkable detail.
