The award-winning MPI Original Film A Piece of Cake is celebrating two recent festival wins: Best Short Film Jury Prize at the Omaha Film Festival and Best Performance By A Child Actor at the Idyllwild International Festival of Cinema, awarded to Riona O’Donnell for her breakout role as Cora.

These new accolades raise the film’s overall awards to an impressive 15 wins including Best Comedy and the Audience Choice Award in Comedy at the Indy Shorts International Film Festival and the Wedgie Award for Best Comedy at Edmonton International Film Festival. It was also nominated for Best Narrative Short at the Tribeca Film Festival.

If you haven’t yet had the opportunity to watch this dramedy short, you’re in luck! The film is slated to screen virtually during the Sonoma International Film Festival March 24–28, the Oscar-qualifying Cleveland International Film Festival April 8–20, and the Annapolis Film Festival April 12–18. For those near Borrego Springs, California, mark your calendars for April 19 as A Piece of Cake will enjoy a free drive-in screening during the Borrego Springs Film Festival.

Created by MPI filmmakers Austin and Meredith Bragg, A Piece of Cake stars Rich Sommer (GLOW, Mad Men) as Jim, a father on a high-stakes journey to secure the banned birthday cake decorations he promised his daughter Cora, played by Riona O’Donnell. In an effort not to break another “daddy promise,” Jim must venture into the underground world of illicit cake decorations where prices are high, smugglers are hardened, and police are on the lookout.
