Beginning this Friday, November 6, moviegoers in the Chicago area will be able to watch four of MPI’s award-winning short films at Landmark’s Century Centre Cinema. 

Don’t miss the opportunity to watch these films the way they were intended to be seen—up on the big screen!  Showings will kick off daily with A Piece of Cake followed by Gringa, Moving Violation, and The Perfect One. These MPI Original short films have screened at more than 60 festivals and won dozens of prestigious awards including a nomination for Best Narrative Short at the Tribeca Film Festival.

Created by MPI filmmakers Austin and Meredith Bragg, A Piece of Cake stars Rich Sommer (GLOW, Mad Men) as Jim, a father on a high-stakes journey to secure the banned birthday cake decorations he promised his daughter. In an effort not to break another “daddy promise,” Jim must venture into the underground world of illicit cake decorations where prices are high, smugglers are hardened, and police are on the lookout.

Co-written by MPI’s senior vice president Lana Link and MPI filmmaker Claudia Murray, Gringa depicts the story of Vanessa, a Cuban-American woman, who has a foot in two worlds. When she rushes home to pack for a trip to Cuba, her eccentric Abuelo hijacks her day, enlisting Vanessa to track down an urgently needed car part for a family member in Havana. Based loosely on the filmmakers’ real-life experiences, Vanessa learns to reset her priorities and walks the line between her two cultures.

Written and directed by MPI filmmaker Laura Waters Hinson, Moving Violation stars Milana Vayntrub (This Is Us) as a jilted bride who is determined to “think positive” after a devastating breakup with her fiancé. But when the newly-installed speed camera on her street won’t stop watching her, positive thinking quickly turns to getting even.

Written and directed by MPI filmmaker Matthew Szewczyk,The Perfect One follows a young painter who revives his family’s failing business by taking an innovative risk.
