Cinematography workshop

The Moving Picture Institute’s Moving Picturecraft cinematography workshop is designed for aspiring and working directors of photography and directors. Filmmakers learn about how lighting, camera, and lens technologies can help them achieve their artistic intentions. The workshop is led by award-winning cinematographer Benjamin Gaskell and includes instruction from award-winning American Society of Cinematographers (ASC) members. Participants receive hands-on experience with industry-standard camera and lighting systems.

To ensure the safety of our filmmakers and instructors, our 2020 workshop will take place using the following hybrid approach: virtual sessions will kick off beginning in mid-November and then participants will regroup in 2021 for an intense, in person weekend at a world-class soundstage in Los Angeles. Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, this workshop is offered to filmmakers at no cost.

Applications for the 2020 workshop are closed at this time. The 2021 application will open in the spring for the fall workshop.

I made major structural and character adjustments to my script as a result of participating in the workshop. Having the input and constructive criticism of the workshop leaders and participants was an absolute gift. My script would never have gotten to the point where it is now without this workshop.
